||My car, I bought in kit form, at the end of March of 1966 while I was serving an engineerig apprenticeship with B.M.C. at Longbridge, from the Lotus dealership that my friend David Prophet(Q.E.P.D.), well known racing driver of the sixties, had in the Midlans (Kings Norton ) B´ham, and was delivered to me at the begining of June/66,it has been with me ever since, it´s original registration LUY 951 D was obtained at the Worcestershire Registration Office, telephonically,on June the 6th of 1966(06-06-1966) Nice coincidence !!!! which is the date when I finished it´s assembly, the registration book was issued on the 10th of same month. It now bears the Colombian registry EYA-128.
In 1973 after four years of work in Germany ,I brought my car to Colombia where I have had it ever since .
Thru the years I have done three general cverhauls to the car and have recently completed a total(to the last bolt and nut )restauration that has taken me cver nine years of on and off work, and is now in a prestine condition. It has a total of 105 000 miles on it ,and I have incorporated several improvements to the chassis and mechanicals to take care of the weaknesses known to all Elan owners.
My S2 was the last delivered Elan of the series although not the last of it,as 5810 was the last Elan S2.
I was offered (By Lotus) the alternative to take delivery of one of the first S3´s which I declined as I didn´t fancy the very primitive/troublesome electric windows, as well as those arches on the doors and the folding hood that spoiled the clean lines of the S2,as well as it being heavier.
I have a lot of memories and annecdotes of the long tennure of my car which I will gladly share with who ever is interested to contact me,
Will post some photos at a later date.
