Lotus Archives state this car sold through Dudley Davies.
Original Owner Dr Richard Counts, Chillicothe, Ohio. Dr Counts modified the car to 26R spec with solid center S1 26R wheels on street radials and S2 "spoked" center wheels on Dunlop race tires. It was fitted w/ other features such as 26R hubs, special crossed-roller bearing half shafts, limited slip Salisbury diff, diff cooler scoop under floor, all adjustable suspension, stiffer small diameter springs, larger front sway bar and large diam rear bar. Dual brake cylinders on balance bar and remote (3) mounted reservoirs. I am unsure of engine modifications, since the doctor died unexpectedly in 1973 and his prodigal son took over the car. He crashed it while driving it on the street over the winter of 1974-75. The nose was destroyed and the front of the engine broken. I bought it in this condition in 1984, fully expecting to start restoring it as soon as my other S3 DHC was restored the following year. Little did I know that a Lotus Eleven would be part of my life before I could start on the new Elan and this Elan is still sitting, awaiting restoration. I have procured several pieces necessary to the restoration such as a front body clip and another motor. |
